Every village, town, and city has at least one tavern. Maybe it also doubles as an inn maybe a general store, but wherever you are in Arcanos, you're sure to find a place to mingle with the locals and grab a drink. Outside of the typical services offered by these establishments, they also tend to be a place where adventurers gather. Something about the familiarity of such places makes them feel like home to these well traveled folks.
Located midway along the north-to-south running river of Carasis, which starts in the Carasis Mts and washes out in the southern border of Arcanos into Kraken Bay, is a small town almost as famous as Bronze King of Mog.
The town is called Yoleven and in that town is the source of its notoriety, a small inn called The Black Mariah.
The Black Mariah is the favorite watering hole for travelers of all types. However, two type of folks in particular especially frequent the inn; adventurers and gamblers (not mutually exclusive obviously). The inn is open all year round, never closing its doors. In addition, one can almost always find at least one table hosting a game of chance.
Outside the weathered stone building there is a black iron spade nailed above the front door. Below that is a sign that reads The Black Mariah below that another reading Current Ownerand finally below that is a much newer sign that currently reads Pearl Vanren. You see, as The Black Mariah is more or less a gambling haven, it often happens that things escalate to the point that the current owner gambles away the whole Inn.
Due to its open doors and central location, The Black Mariah seems to be a nexus of news, gossip, trade offers, and adventuring gigs to all of Arcanos. Though the inn itself is rather small, and most of its rooms have been fitted for private games, the small town it is nestled in offers several other inns as well. Though most people spend their waking hours at The Black Mariah, typically people sleep at the other establishments. Outside of that, the town has a few shops and is surrounded by a few square miles of farm land.
The Current Owner, Pearl, is a strong, mirthful woman with deep scars running along her arms and shoulders. Her peppered hair gives her age away, but her hands are still quicker than the average eye can follow. While Pearl has actually managed to hang on to the Inn for close to a decade, she has included the deed in a kitty or two.
