Jarkodon the Prophet (or Jarke for short) believes he is a modern day prophet as much as he believes Jarek the Paladin was the most recent Dragonborn prophet.
Jarke the Prophet (born Jarkodon Toothface) always saw himself as different from other Dragonborn. While they were squabbling over petty matters such as becoming leader of a small tribe, or who ate first, or who should attack whom, Jarke took the long view. He had heard tales of one of the most famous Dragonborn Paladins, the great and glorious Jarek, and knew that he must make a name for himself as well.
As Jarek had existed centuries ago, Jarke decided to rename himself "Jarkodon the Prophet of Jarek" and attempted to make a pilgrimage to find the burial place of his long dead muse. After many moons and trials, Jarke's long voyage came to the place where he believed his hero had been buried. To Jarke's pleasure, Jarek's resting place was rather elaborate with a large grave at the base of a giant tree that must have been planted at the time of Jarek's demise. His gravestone was marked with the symbol of Jarek's god Bahamut and had a carved with a likeness of what must have been Jarek. There were even stones and statues that survived the centuries, but sadly, it seemed like the place had slowly eroded due to the elements and lack of a upkeep.
It was then that from behind one of the tree's giant roots, Jarke heard a voice. Slyly emerging from the shadows came a nefarious looking individual.
"I can see that you are here to give your respects to the hero Jarek are you not?" rasped the wizard. Jarke immediately responded, "Of course, do I look like a fool to you?"
"No fool, in fact, if you're interested, perhaps I can help you."
"Help me," Jarke laughed "You're speaking to Jarkodon the Prophet, I very much doubt you and can help me"
"I beg to differ" spoke the cloaked man, "I think I can give you something you very much desire," he paused "I can infuse in you the power of Jarek."
Jarke was intrigued, but was no fool. However, the mysterious man was convincing. He told Jarke that he saw Jarke in a vision and that is how he knew to meet him here at this moment. Jarke asked what's in it for him, the man said simply, but with venom, "Sometime in the future, I will ask for a favor, do not forget who gave you this power." Before long, Jarke was following the man who identified himself only as "Kalil" to a cave in which many alchemical reagents had been set up.
Jarke was instructed to stand inside a chalk outline on the ground and given items to hold. Most of the items were reagents, claws of birds, strange leaves, and the sort. But one item was special, Kalil stated that it was a ring that had belonged to Jarek, "the eye of the Prophet" as Jarke was told. Jarke was also told "This might hurt a little bit" as was customary in these circumstances.
Before long, a pillar of smoke and wind, and a little lightening for good measure, began to circle around Jarke. Kalil began chanting and as he got louder, so did the intensity of the storm. Before long, Jarke could not see in front of him, and he began to hallucinate visions. What these visions are Jarke could not remember, but when the smoke cleared, Kalil was gone.
After calling out a few times, Jarke realized he was alone and eventually wandered out of the cave, unaware of what power he did or did not have. The one thing he did know, was he was linked to the hero Jarek and would spread his message by becoming as powerful as his namesake had been centuries ago.
The last thing he did before departing was dropping off a small bag at the foot of Jarek's tomb. "Rest in peace Jarek, I shall continue what you started."
